Meet Dr SRP — Gravesend's Most Experienced Sedation Dentist

You are in safe, experienced and compassionate hands.

With over 22 years of IV sedation experience, Dr SRP has helped hundreds of anxious patients receive the dental care they need — painlessly and comfortably. He holds the relevant qualifications and training to administer and monitor intravenous sedation safely, and is one of a small number of dentists in Kent qualified to offer this level of care.

Sedation We Offer

IV Sedation

Administered through a small cannula in the back of your hand. Produces a deep state of relaxation — you remain conscious and responsive but feel completely calm. Most patients remember little of the procedure. Ideal for moderate to severe anxiety, complex treatments, or long appointments.

You will need a responsible adult to accompany you home.

Is Sedation Dentistry Right for You?

Sedation dentistry may be the right choice if you:

Feel anxious, nervous or frightened about dental visits

Have had a traumatic dental experience in the past

Have a sensitive gag reflex that makes treatment difficult

Need complex, lengthy or multiple treatments in one visit

Have been avoiding the dentist for months or years due to fear

Simply want to feel completely relaxed and unaware during treatment

You do not need to have severe dental phobia to benefit from sedation — many patients simply prefer the experience of being relaxed and comfortable.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I be unconscious during sedation dentistry?

No — IV sedation is not a general anaesthetic. You will remain conscious and able to respond to Dr SRP throughout the treatment. However, most patients feel deeply relaxed, drowsy and comfortable, and many have little or no memory of the procedure afterwards. It is sometimes called ‘twilight sedation’ for this reason.

Is IV sedation safe?

Yes. IV sedation has an excellent safety record when administered by a trained and experienced clinician. Dr SRP has over 22 years of IV sedation experience and holds the relevant qualifications to administer and monitor sedation safely. Your oxygen levels, heart rate and blood pressure are monitored throughout the procedure.

What is the difference between IV sedation and inhalation (gas) sedation?

Inhalation sedation (laughing gas / relative analgesia) uses a mix of nitrous oxide and oxygen breathed through a small mask. It produces a mild, calming effect and wears off very quickly — you can often drive home afterwards. IV sedation is administered through a small cannula in your arm, produces a much deeper relaxation, and takes longer to wear off. We will recommend the most appropriate type based on your anxiety level and the treatment needed.

Who is sedation dentistry suitable for?

Sedation is suitable for patients who feel anxious or fearful about dental visits, have a strong gag reflex, need complex or lengthy treatment, have had a difficult dental experience in the past, or simply want to feel completely relaxed and unaware during treatment. It is suitable for most adults — Dr SRP will assess your medical history to confirm suitability during your consultation.

Will I need someone to take me home after IV sedation?

Yes. Because IV sedation takes time to fully clear your system, you must arrange for a responsible adult to take you home and stay with you for the rest of the day. You should not drive, operate machinery or make important decisions for 24 hours after IV sedation.
